The community of Canyon CIty is located on Hwy. 395, just south of John Day, Oregon. The town has an area of 1.4 square miles and has a population of about 700 individuals. The town was established in 1862 when gold was discovered on Canyon Creek. The town was incorporated in 1891. The city park is located across the street from city hall and the fire hall which occupies the rest of the building located on Washington Street.
