At this location the Bow River takes a sharp turn that looks like the elbow of a bent arm. Stoney, Sarcee and Blackfoot people to this day call Calgary "the Elbow". For thousands of years native people have visited this area.
At "the Elbow" two more streams join the Bow River, the Elbow River from the south which was first called the Swift and this creek which was named Nose Creek after Nose Hill.
How did the Bow obtain its name?? The natives found that they could make excellent bows from the trees along it and therefore named it "the Bow".
