Ripley's Aquaruim bills itself as South Carolina's most visited tourist destination and occupies 87,000 square feet at a cost of $40 million.
The centerpiece of the aquarium is "Dangerous Reef" - which consists of a 750,000 gallon tank where tourists are transported by a moving walkway underneath the tank. As you move through the tank, sharks can be seen on all sides. There are other tanks including "Rainbow Rock" containing colorful tropical creatures, "Ray Bay", and "Sea-For-Yourself Discovery Center" - a tank containing horseshoe crabs that can be touched by the kids (or adults, for that matter).
The complex also contains a restaurant where you can dine overlooking one of the tanks....and of course there is a well-stocked gift shop!
