At The Thomas Condon Paleontology Center scientists study the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument’s 40 million years of plant and animal evolution through a collection of over 40,000 fossils. The Center, which opened in 2005, includes a museum, fossil preperation lab, fossil storage facilities, and a classroom. The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument includes three sections (Sheep Rock, Painted Hills, and Clarno Units) and is spread over 14,000 acres in north-central Oregon. The Monument is one of North America’s most significant paleontological research areas.
