This cemetery is adjacent to the British Fort Sackville which was surrendered to Colonel Clark on February 25, 1779. While there are over 4,000 graves in this cemetery, most are unmarked.
Information form INSSAR website: Bowman was born in Frederick County Virginia. History staes that Major Bowman left his family in Virginia. That may mean his father's family or a wife and children of whom there is no record in Knox County, Indiana. He was a Captain in Clark's Army at capture of Fort Sackville.
Commission of Major arrived two days later, at time Clark was promoted to General. In celebrating event of capture, Bowman was injured by an explosion of gun powder, and eventally died from the effects of that accident.

Major Bowman was remembered at the 2006
Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous.
Participants recreated his funeral and procession.
