The Porte de Mars is a Triumphal Arch built at the time of the Roman Empire (3rd century A.D.) and which gets its name from a Roman temple of Mars which was located nearby.

According to the French version of Wikipedia, the arch is 33 meters wide which makes it the widest in the Roman world and 13 meters high. The arch was highly decorated and the remains of this decoration is still very visible in places. As with many Roman arches, the central arch was for wagons and the side arches for pedestrian traffic.
The arch provided access to the city of Durocortorum (today's Reims).
The arch was incorporated into the medieval city wall but then freed from this in the 19th century.
