The Big Spring is located in downtown Huntsville, AL. Producing nearly 24 million gallons of water per day, this is a Magnatude 2 spring with 36.75 cubic feet of water per second being produced. The water from the spring was used as Huntsvilles city water supply until 1957. Prior to 1950 the sale of water from the spring was the largest single source of income for the city's general fund.
A city park has been built around the spring and the former canal that it supplied. Parking is available on streets around the area.
