1473-1543
Erected in 1973 by the Copernicus Foundation & the Polish American Congress to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his birth.

Mikolaj Kopernik was born in Torun (Thorn), Royal Prussia, in what is now Poland. He was the first European to scientifically show with data that the sun centers our planetary system, what we now call our 'solar system'. His book "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres) is regarded as the beginning of the Scientific Revolution.
