The famous Temple of Athena Parthenos, built in 440 BC, crowns the Acropolis. It was a major sacred site in antiquity and later became a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The monumental edifice is considered one of the finest examples of Greek architecture anywhere.

The original Parthenon is still found in Greece but a exact replica was built and serves as the residence of Dr. Earnest Archer a retired Winthrop University professor. This house is on private property but in the past he has opened the structure for viewing during the Tour of Rock Hill Homes. Also a local Reality TV show featured the home and Dr. Archer. According to the show an actual piece of the Parthenon given to Dr. Archer is displayed in the house.
I live near by and use this house a reference point when giving locals directions and I am always asked by visitors what is the "story for that structure"?
Reminder this is private property all pictures should be taken from the intersection of Susan Cr. & Oak Park Road.
