McLean County was founded in 1883, six years before North Dakota achieved statehood. Located in central North Dakota, the county has a population of about 10,000. The county seat is located in Washburn. The McLean County Courthouse was built in 1907 and houses most county government services. The courthouse is constructed of light colored bricks and stone. The building was constructed by the Hancock Brothers and continues to serve as the county courthouse.
