Clint Woolsey was a native of the Leelenau region and joined the Army Air Corps in the 1920s. The Army comissioned a goodwill/reconissance mission to South American with a flight of five Loening OA-1A amphibian aircraft. Clint Woolsey was killed near Buenos Aires in an collision of his aircraft with another as they were trying to manually lower his landing gear.

His family donated their farm to be used as an airport in his honor.
