Stephen Thompson, Sr. was born 20 April 1734 in New Haven, CT. He married Mary Walter. From June, 1776, to the close of the war he took part in the battle of Long Island and retreat to New York, battles of White Plains, Germantown, Mommouth, Stony Point, and Siege of Yorktown. Stephen was at Valley Forge when Cornwallis surrendered and was in the campaign about New York and Philadelphia with General Washington. He was a private in Captain Brackett's company, Colonel William Douglas' regiment, Wadsworth brigade, CT; also in Munson's company, Eighth CT regiment; Captain Douglas' company, Fifth regiment, CT line, from formation until its consolidation with the First regiment of CT line in autumn of 1781.
