JOEL GAYLORD was born 1753. He married Lois Cook. They were among the first settlers in the town of Harpersfield, New York. Joel enlisted at Goshen, CT on August 15, 1777 as a private in Captain Albert Chapman's company. April, 1778 he was appointed musician, in the Seventh regiment, Connecticut line, commanded by Col. Herman Swift, which fought at Germantown. He was a Quarter Master Sergeant under Col. Seammell.
