Putnam County has a rich and fascinating history. From the early days of riverboats and the rebirth of a town dusting itself off from the devasting effects of a massive fire in it's downtown district in 1884 the Putnam County Historic Museum houses the archives and memorobilia of the History of Palatka and Putnam County. Moving forward the time Palatka was once a rival of Jacksonville for the tourist industry till Henry Flagler decided to continue the rail lines down the East Coast of Florida.Palatka then moved into a timber town with the Birth of The Wilson Timber Co. awhich grew into one of the largest cypress mills in the world. Come and explore the unique history of Palatka and Putnam County at the Historic Museum. The museum is housed in the oldest surving structure in Putnam County. The museum was orignally built in 1834 and served as the Officers Quarters during The Seminole Indian War.
