George Hamilton was a hero in the Civil War, wounded and not in the best of health when he bought his homestead for $1.25 per acre. He was given a disability discharge in 1863 in St. Louis, and died a year after his homestead was filed. There is one other stone in the cemetery, and the area was 'witched' in later years and shows the graves of 3 children and 24 adults-whose probable wooden cross markers have disintegrated. The Rosedale (or Mud Creek) Church was a sod structure nearby that burned during a prairie fire. After being rebuilt, it was moved to nearby Bartlett, where it burned down in 1970.
