The ashes of father and son, Jacob & Samuel Maple, are entombed in a concrete block with a plaque about 100 feet in front of the entrance to the Airport Terminal building.

The plaque reads:
Imbedded in this concrete are the ashes Jacob Maple and his son Samuel Maple. This spot being the original donation claim of Samuel Maple who settled here in June 1851. *-* This plaque placed by their descendants 1950.
Interesting that the plaque says June 1851 since other sources say: "On September 16, 1851, Luther M. Collins (1813-1860), Henry Van Asselt (1817-1902), and Jacob Maple (or Mapel) (1798-1884) and his son Samuel Maple (1827-1880) select the first Donation Land claims within the future King County. The four settlers choose rich Duwamish River bottomland in what would later become Georgetown."
Whatever the truth, seeing this marker in the parking lot of the airport was a surprise indeed. The late afternoon sun and heavy weathering make photos of the plaque rather difficult to read.
