UPDATED: This is a very unique lift bridge; I have recently determined that this is a “Strauss direct lift bridge (S.D.L.B.)” meaning it has no cables to raise the draw span like most vertical lift bridges do. This unique bridge is the only example of this type of bridge in the United States and one of only two in North America, the other being the much larger and longer Prince George Railway Bridge in British Columbia Canada. While I have never seen the bridge raised, there are boats in the marina inside the bay and the channel is still considered a navigable waterway. This is the BNSF & UP mainline between Seattle, WA and Portland, Ore. and sees many trains per day.
Visit Instructions:
1) After you've found a vertical lift bridge, go visit it, get the coordinates, a picture or two of it, and if it is in use or not still as a lift bridge.
Then log it and post your pictures! At least one of the photos must be of you and your GPS there with the bridge in the background. (No old vacation shots or photos off the internet!)
2) Include the coordinates, city/county/state/country and the name of the bridge (if it has one).
3) Include any interesting information about the structure
