The most distinctive feature of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church is an octagonal 245-foot Medina sandstone steeple that is topped by a 72 foot tall, pierced spire. It is the tallest open-work spire ever built completely of stone without reinforcement in the U.S. It is also reputed to be the only remaining pierced spire in the country.
