McMenamins Edgefield is located approximately 15 miles east of Portland in Troutdale, OR, close to Hwy 84. Come here expecting to have a great time - no TV, no phone, great coffee, wine cellar and wine tasting, working distillery/bar, Jerry Garcia bar (cigar smoking encouraged here) where you are immersed in Jerry memorabillia and music, a 9-hole golf course, live entertainment, home-style movie viewing (comfy couches and chairs, food and beer) ... and the list goes on. Plan to stay a few days and partake in all the festivities, enjoy a refurbished early 1900's room or dorm facility, whimsical art throughout the building, board games (they will loan them out at the front desk to guests), thick, fluffy towels (and a loaner bathrobe to get to and from the community baths), etc etc etc. Well worth the short drive out of town to get here -- and plan to stay awhile!
I stay here every time I am in Portland. The dorms rented for $30 a night last time I was here and provide the same big, thick fluffy towels and access to the clean shower facilities. They have always had a bed available (many times the dorm has been empty and I've been the only one in there). My daughter and I spent a few nights there in a queen room and I believe it was only $50 a night. (She whooped me at golf - her first time playing - beginners luck). I often end up sitting and relaxing in the coffee shop in the morning for longer than I should, savoring cup after cup of their great specialty coffee! The facilities are immaculate, affordable, and there are enough restaurants, bars, and other ammenities that you won't feel the need to be in town.
