Jarvis Adelbert Brewster built the house in 1888. He was born October 30, 1861 in Lincolnville (just north of Camden), Maine. He moved to Freeport in approximately 1887, following his marriage to Fannie Adams, the daughter of Captain Israel Adams, of Lincolnville. Brewster
was a local businessman and the owner of J. A. Brewster, General
Merchandise, and a "Dealer in Hardware, Stoves, Crockery, Groceries, Lime, Cement, Paints, Oils, etc."
Great care was taken during the year-long renovation process to retain and restore its antique features while creating spacious guest rooms and adding large new bathrooms and a sprinkler system. Brewster House Bed and Breakfast opened its doors to guests on July 2, 1994.
