This statue was placed as a monument to the Ukranian people that died in the genocidal famine inflicted upon them by the Soviet Regime in Moscow between 1932 and 1933. This monument is found in front of City Hall in downtown Edmonton, Alberta.

The twisted and fractured circle represents the life cycle being torn apart by an unnatural force: emaciated hands resist, grasp and then beg for an end to their inhuman condition.
