The Iron Bridge was built in 1779, spanning the River Severn at Ironbridge in Shropshire, is universally recognised as the icon of the Industrial Revolution. It was built by Abraham Darby III, whose grandfather Abraham Darby made a vital breakthrough in 1709 by developing a process for making affordable cast iron. Today it has many visitors, it is only used only by pedestrians.
