The howitzer had an inscription on it that reads "155.C.Mle 1917 Schneider A1 St Ouen 1918". According to Wikipedia, this type of gun was used by the French during the first half of the 20th century. Also stamped on the gun is the number 3514, presumably a serial number.
There is a VFW insignia on the concrete beneath the gun with the letters VFW 2708 below it.
