The Higginsport Christian Church was organized in 1839 by Elder John Phillips, an ordained elder of the southern Ohio Christian Conference. Elder Phillips was instrumental in starting Antioch College in Yellow Springs.
The first Christian Church building in Higginsport, located on Washington Street was built in 1841 under the direction of Elder Matthew Gardner. On the 1880 plot map of the Village of Higginsport, this location is identified as being the New Light Church.
The current church building, located in the center of town, which is little unchanged from its original appearance, was constructed in 1874, and dedicated on November 7, 1875.
