Hudspeth's Cutoff was suppose to be a 100 mile shortcut for the California Trail that lead to the gold mines sought by most in the late 1840's - it shortened the route, just not as much.
It was amazing to see this Cutoff when I got farther East near the Wyoming border - heck of a Cutoff to travel through!

This shortcut to the California Gold fields followed by most of the 49'ers. Came out of the Hills to the East and joined the Old California Trail just about here.
