This is truly a unique location. They still make their own root beer with water drawn from the well on the property. The stand has been in business since 1957. It is somewhat small and most days there is a crowd of people standing at the counter, waiting for some seats to open up.
The root beer is truly wonderful. They serve it in mugs they chill in a cold water bath behind the bar; a little rubber duck swims in there with them. The best deal is the pitcher, as you will be drinking more then one mug! You can purchase a quart or gallon to go.
It is located north of Cincinnati, in Sharonville, Ohio, along the one of the routes of the Dixie Highway, hmmm! It is a seasonal operation, opening in April and closing late in September.
You can still see the distinctive A&W color scheme, including on the canopy over the carhop area and on the signs. They no longer serve you in your car.
A small playground is located behind the building, but don’t go near the evil railroad tracks. The ceiling is covered with hanging ball caps, left over from prior customers. There are a whole bunch of small portable games that the kids can play with while waiting to be served.
Here is a link to explain the location.
