Designed by Giovanni Battista Crespi, aka Cerano, and built 1697 on a hill above Arona at the Lago Maggiore in northern italy.

The statue is 35,1 m high, the arm is 9,1 m long and the thumb is 1,4 m long with 1 m in perimeter.

The monument, aka Carlone, is shown with one hand blessing and on the other hand he holds the last act of Trient.

It is built together with pieces made out of bronze around a concrete core. By using a steep staircase inside the statue, you can climb inside the head and take a look outside through eyes an ears. You will have a wonderfull view over the city and the lake.

Carlone was the biggest acceessible statue until the "Statue of Liberty" was built in New York City (1886).
