Life-size marine art in public places.
Perhaps the best way to teach someone about environmental conservation
is to simply show them what they are conserving. The Wyland
Foundation's Whaling Wall murals have been raising environmental
awareness about our undersea world for over twenty years.
These 91 monumental life-size depictions of migrating gray whales,
breaching humpbacks, blue whales, and other marine life are viewed
by an estimated 1 billion people each year, and have become
treasured landmarks in cities from Chicago to Nice to Auckland.
Imagine rounding a corner in a landlocked urban downtown and coming
face to face with a family of humpback whales on the side
of a 26-story hotel.
The impact of such an encounter is extraordinary, especially for
anyone who's never seen a picture of a whale anywhere but in a
book or on television. All of the Wyland Foundation's Whaling Wall
murals are painted in life-size dimensions to help people understand
and appreciate the true scale of these magnificent creatures.
