Oxford, Wisconsin was settled about 1850. The village plat was filed in 1854. The Village was incorporated in 1912. This location was important to early travelers as a fording place for oxen and wagons crossing Neenah Creek. Population in 1890 was 400. William R. Axford was the 1st resident in 1849. Mr. Bentley Axford was given the honor of choosing a name for the Village, he named it for his old home town of Oxford, New York - which got its original name from the original in England.
