Darlingtonia californica, also called the California Pitcher plant, Cobra Lily, or Cobra Plant, is a carnivorous plant, the sole member of the genus Darlingtonia in the family Sarraceniaceae. It is native to Northern California and Oregon, growing in bogs and seeps with running water. This plant is designated as uncommon due to its rarity in the field. Wikipedia
The Darlingtonia State Natural Site is the only state park dedicated to the preservation of a single (rare) plant species. The botanical garden here showcases the only carnivorous plant that is native to Oregon. Darlingtonia are found only in wet meadows and bogs with acid soils low in nitrogen and examples can be found from 6,000 feet down to sea level.
This 18 acre botanical preserve is located approximately 5 miles north of Florence Oregon just off of highway 101.
