USGS official description:
"High Lake, 1.1 mi. NE. of, 1.3 mi. SW. of Slide Lake, 16 ft. N. of cetner of a horsehose bend in trail in summit, about 6 ft. higher than the trail, in rock outcrop; standard tablet stamped "1940 H 88 8172"; boulder marked "US 8172.1 PBM."

Reach by hiking the Skyline Trail east from the High Lake Rim parking area. Go down to High Lake and continue up to the ridge summit. This benchmark is located at the ridge summit next to the trail.
