RECOVERY NOTE BY MAHONING COUNTY OHIO 1956 THE STATION MARK, REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 AND THE AZIMUTH MARK WERE RECOVERED. A NEW AZIMUTH MARK WAS ESTABLISHED AND THE ORIGINAL AZIMUTH MARK REMOVED TO PERMIT HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION. THE STATION IS LOCATED NEAR THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE VILLAGE OF NEW MIDDLETON ON THE GROUNDS OF THE ZION LUTHERN CHURCH. IT IS ABOUT 150 FEET FROM THE CENTER OF STATE HIGHWAY 90, 6O.3 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE CHURCH AND 19.7 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE CHURCH. THE MARK IS NOW ABOUT 1 FOOT BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 WAS RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. IT IS NOW 100.7 FEET FROM THE CENTER OF STATE HIGHWAY 90, 100 FEET FROM THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE CHURCH AND 100 FEET FROM THE STATION. THE MARK IS ABOUT 8 INCHES UNDERGROUND. THE NEW AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A CONCRETE POST LEVEL WITH THE GROUND. THE MARK IS STAMPED MIDDLE 1949 RESET 1956. IT IS 48 FEET SOUTH OF THE SNODES- NEW MIDDLETON ROAD, 86 FEET SOUTHEAST OF UTILITY POLE 8/117 (230-161), 46 FEET FROM THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE HOUSE OF ED REITER JR. AND 42 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE OF THE HOUSE WEST OF THE REITER RESIDENCE. THE RESET MARK IS 89.14 FEET SOUTHEAST OF WHERE THE ORIGINAL AZIMUTH MARK WAS.

From the junction of State Route 170 and East Middletown Road just south of the village of New Middletown, go east about 0.4 mile to the residence of Mrs. Ed Reiter Jr. at 5571 East Middletown Road. The mark is 46 feet northwest of the northwest corner of the Reiter house and 42 feet northeast of the northeast corner of the house at 5551 East Middletown Road, which is west of the Reiter residence.
