The Southern Idaho Tree Protection Association is a State Agency that was formed just prior to World War II prior to the formation of the National Forest Service. SITPA still maintains three lookouts in the McCall area for the purpose of fire spotting, but the administrative buildings that were originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corp during the Depression, were vacated in 1990 and the property was handed over to the city of McCall, Idaho. The city has since turned the old CCC era buildings into the Central Idaho Historical Museum.
The Museum is staffed by volunteers, so the hours are a bit limited, but there are a few self guided tours that a visitor can take even during the off hours.
