The Sunrise Visitor Center, originally the Community House, was built from 1939-1943. It has always been used as an interpretive museum.

This shows the Visitor Center at Sunrise soon after contruction was completed in 1943. First called the "Camper's Shelter" and later the "Community House" this building is now used as a visitor center. Construction started in 1939 and due to financial issues wasn't completed until 1943. It measures 42 x 88 feet, and together with the north and south blockhouses forms the Stockade. In 1952 a stone fireplace and chimney were added, but other than that the Visitor Center is virtually unchanged.
The interpretive displays focus on the natural aspects (geology, plant and animal life) of the park and is the best one on the subject of any of the visitor centers within the park.
