Maverick - Cedar Point Amusement Park - Roller Coasters on Waymarking.com

Opened in 2007, the Maverick is a new kind of roller coaster. The chain drive is no more. They use something called "Linear Synchronous Motor Launching System." But more simply put, it uses the same type of technology as the high-speed MagLev trains. It is magnetically propelled.

This technology offers a smooth, accelerated ascent up the first hill. Yes, I did say "accelerated." Gone is the clickty-clack of the steady chain drive.

After a fast ascent, you then go down the first hill at a 95 degree angle.

What follows is a twisting, turning high-speed adventure. The top speed from the second hill is 70 MPH. Enjoy the ride.
