Volcanoes Stadium was officially opened on June 22, 1997, when the former Bellingham Giants opened the season at their new home. The new team name was for both the team's home and the neighboring state capitol, plus the Cascade range that can be seen beyond right field. Since then the team has been known for it's success both on and off the field, and quite often the team will outdraw the AAA team in Portland 40 miles north. The stadium itself is very basic, with lower box chair seats, upper aluminum bench seating and a grass berm extending from third base to left field.
