The following excerpt is from "Utah: A Guide to the State":
ECHO CANYON, a cavernous ravine in which sounds reverberate weirdly from towering walls, has reechoed to the passage of Indians, trappers and explorers, Pacific emigrants, Mormon pioneers, wagon freighters, California gold-seekers, Pony Express riders, Overland Stage drivers and travelers of every description. The first transcontinental railroad followed the beaten path through Echo and Weber canyons. Like dragon's teeth, railroad spikes sprouted railroad towns, which stagnated as the rails moved westward.
The canyon continues to be a major thoroughfare for the nation, with both Interstate 80/I-84 and the railroad winding down and out of the mountains through it. The coordinates given are for a rest area where you can pull off. There's a nice trail that will take you up on a small hill where you'll have great views of the canyon.
