This mountain received its name for the big cross at the top, which emphasizes its presence among the others. The path to hike up is called "Sendero Panamá" (English: Panama footpath) that takes almost 45 minutes to get the summit. Some parts of the trail require good physical conditions due to raised slopes. During the hiking oneself is surrounded by a montane tropical rain forest. Its volcanic origins, high altitude (600m - 1,000m) and cool wet climate, coupled with its isolation from the main mountain range, make Altos de Campana National Park particularly interesting biologically. The fauna that can be heard or seen in the area is composed of monkeys, wild pigs, more than 175 different bird species, with reptiles being represented by the famous golden frogs that are an endangered species, which can only be found here. Volcanic activity from ancient past can be seen in the cliffs, lava fields, and volcanic rocks that pepper around. From the peek there are great views over the Panama Canal basin, mangroves at the mouth of the Chame River, and some islands in the Pacific Ocean.
