The window is in the front wall of the Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mrs. Nan Wood Graham, sister of the artist, modeled for the central figure, a 16-foot tall woman wearing a Grecian robe. Floating in the clouds gives it a spiritual effect. A blue morning veil is draped over her head. In her right hand, she holds the palm branch of peace, and in her left, the laurel wreath of victory. At the bottom on either side of the memorial plaque stands six life size, 6-foot tall figures in the uniforms of the Private of the war represented ~ The Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Mexican War, The Civil War, and the First World War.
Insignias of the Army, Navy, and Marines were used in the border of the window design.
There are over 8000 pieces of glass in this window. It took two years to design, build, and install. It was completed March 9, 1929.
