Frank Lloyd Wright regularly used stained glass in the windows of the residential homes he designed. His designs were always geometric in shape, typically using squares and rectangles, but at times incorporating circles and triangles.
The Thomas house, his first prairie style home in Oak Park, has some wonderful examples of his glass. The lower horizontal band of windows are all stained glass and the upper band of windows are each flanked by a vertical strip of stained glass on either side.
This house was commissioned by James C. Rogers for his daughter and her husband, Frank Wright Thomas. The home is his first all stucco home in Oak Park. He used stucco instead of wood siding to accentuate the clear, geometric forms of his designs.
The structure is privately owned and in a residential neighborhood, so please do any viewing of the windows from the sidewalk.
