The gauge is a typical one on the river Tisza.
The river was regulated between 1840 and and 1880 and it became a lot shorter - from 1400 km to 977.
There is a gauge near every levee watchman's house on the flood plain. The houses are less than 10 km from each other on both sides of the river.
