This dam was created for drinking water supply; there is a pumping station beside the dam. The river below the dam is tidal. As you can see from the photos there is a walk way cross the river, this walk way is covered with water for about 2 hours when the tide is high. The Tavy is a very fast rising river as its catchment area is a large part of Dartmoor.
