This dam was created for drinking water supply; there is a pumping station beside the dam. The river below the dam is tidal. As you can see from the photos there is a walk way cross the river, this walk way is covered with water for about 2 hours when the tide is high. The height of the waterfall depends on how much water is coming down the Tavy. The Tavy is a very fast rising river as its catchment area is a large part of Dartmoor. There are 2 river gauges at Lopwell, one either side of the river.
RIVER GAUGE INFORMATION: 6ft, 5ft 1.5m the rest of the gauge is too dirty to read.
