Perhaps the most beautiful of the mansions on the hill, this huge Colonial Revival, replete with Ionic pilasters and stained glass windows, was built for George W. Johnson in 1901.

George Johnson had founded Johnson Bronze, a local mill. The house was designed by Harry M. Wirsing, architect of St. Mary’s Church. Along with the adjacent John Bower House, it is now owned by a local attorney. Apparently, plans were put forth to develop the two homes into some sort of vague law office-retail-entertainment venue called Signature Hill. The development never quite coalesced, and the buildings are for sale at $1.4 million, just shy of a million over their officially appraised value.
