By the end of the 19th century, S.W. Foulke was well known for his design of several Romanesque Revival churches and YMCA buildings throughout the Ohio Valley and Appalachia, including the 1895 Butler YMCA in the Butler Historic District.
Leander Raney owned two mills in New Castle. In 1907, banker David Jameson, founder of Jameson Memorial Hospital, bought the castle. The castle was damaged by fire in May 1998 and hasn’t quite recovered.
