The sign states:

"Melodeons, organs, and pianos were manufactured on this site from 1874 to 1925."

Boston and Cambridge were well known for their production of pianos and organs. Somewhere I had read that up to a quarter of the country's organs came from this area. Mason and Hamlin was one of several companies known for their quality craftsmanship. The industry is now gone in either city. Mason and Hamlin went through a series of owners. Owners of PianoDisc now own the company and have restarted manufacturing under that name in an old shoe factory in Haverhill. Their website, which includes a history of the company, is here: (visit link) .
