Dickinson College was founded by Philadelphia physician Benjamin Rush and named after governor of Pennsylvania - John Dickinson. The school's law department, established in 1833, became the Dickinson School of Law in 1890, and became fully independent of the college in 1917. The 80+ acre campus is located in the western part of town and has a student population of about 2300.
