There are many black bears in the area, as well as wild turkey, bald eagles, white-tailed deer, gopher tortoise, alligators, and eastern indigo snakes. On the drive to Alexander Springs you may see scrub-jays perched on the electric wires. Swimming, kayaking, and paddling are popular activities.
On the Timucuan Trail, watch for migratory songbirds and waders. Watch for limpkins at river crossings and red-cockaded woodpecker trees throughout the forest.
