The memorial was placed to welcome the Traveling Wall Veterans Memorial. This traveling display is a smaller replica of the national monument in Washington D.C. The Wall Memorial in Festus commemorates the displaying of the Vietnam Veterans Traveling Memorial here on October 5-8, 2006.
The Wall is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC, it stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end. The memorial Wall is sponsored by the Vietnam and All Veterans of Brevard (VVB). Work to build the Wall was started in April of 2005.
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall was completed and first shown to the public April 24, 2006. This Traveling Memorial stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. It was made for the purpose of helping heal and rekindle friendships.
The Traveling Memorial Vietnam Wall also allows people the opportunity to visit loved ones in their home town, who otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington. Many people in the area came to visit the monument.
The Wall Memorial in Festus is dedicated to veterans of all wars and is not limited to the veterans of the Vietnam War. The traveling memorial ran along the south west side of this memorial park.

Description of Memorial:
The Wall Memorial is situated at the National Guard Drive entrance to West City Park.
This is a beautiful park featuring several soccer fields, baseball, little league and softball fields, a 3 acre fishing lake stocked regularly and a favorite stop for migrating birds.
Several pavillions, picnic areas, electrical sites and playgrounds are also featured. The park is home to the Festus Disc Golf team, The Festus Horseshoe and Washers Team, and hosts several trails for bike riding, hiking and driving.
The Wall Memorial marks the visitation of the traveling memorial in Festus, Missouri.
