This memorial of the First Military Aircraft Fatalities site in South Africa - is situated in Irene, near to Centurion. Next to the memorial are two majestic oak trees, presumed to have been planted in memory of the two pilots.
Capt. Laurence van der Byl and Lt. E. Stewart died at this site on 18 September 1922 when their Avro Bi-plane crashed in a field that has not changed since.
